VIRTUAL RIDES CONNECTING CLEVELAND TO THE NATION

Connecting Special Needs People and Their Loved Ones with the Community

The On the Mend program is designed to cater to the needs of individuals with special needs, their friends and families, as well as local bike shops. By creating a "virtual ride" in which team members can participate physically or through stationary bikes, On the Mend provides an inclusive platform for everyone to get involved. Bike shops play a crucial role, offering support, services, and a platform to promote the program and the power drink that fuels the athletes.

ABOUT Mark's Journey and the BEGINNINGS of "On the Mend LLC"

Single mother Kristina has been caring for her non-verbal, non-ambulatory son Mark since 1999. After a life-changing decision to bring Mark home full-time, Kristina recognized the need to find a way to keep her family active and engaged in the sports they love. This led to the creation of On the Mend LLC, a unique program that empowers individuals with special needs to participate in cycling and other wheeled activities with the support of their friends and family.

BUILDING BENEFICIAL RELATIONSHIPS

The On the Mend program is built on an innovative business model that combines cycling, special needs support, and revenue streams. By partnering with local bike shops, On the Mend creates a mutually beneficial relationship where the shops promote the program, provide services to participating teams, and sell our own specialized power drink, ASEA. This revenue model allows On the Mend to sustain and grow, ensuring the continued success of the program.

  • How does the virtual ride option work?

For the virtual ride, the special needs person (SNP) chooses a route developed by the On the Mend team, such as a ride from Cleveland to New York City. The SNP's team of family and friends can then go out and ride that route physically on the streets or on stationary bikes, logging their miles through various riding apps. They take a screenshot of their ride and submit it, and the total miles from the team are then tracked on the virtual map, moving the bike icon along the route.
